As an Activities Assistant at JAG Healthcare, you’ll help create meaningful experiences that support residents’ social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual well-being.

From games, crafts, music, and celebrations to one-on-one visits and community outings, you’ll help residents stay engaged, connected, and involved in the things they enjoy. Your creativity, encouragement, and positive energy can turn an ordinary day into a memorable one.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Lead Engaging Activities

Assist with planning and leading group activities such as games, crafts, music, exercise, parties, seasonal celebrations, and special events.

Encourage Resident Participation

Invite and encourage residents to participate in activities that match their abilities, interests, preferences, and personal goals.

Build Meaningful Connections

Spend time getting to know residents, listening to their stories, and creating opportunities for friendship, laughter, and connection.

Provide Individualized Engagement

Offer one-on-one visits and activities for residents who may be unable or prefer not to participate in larger group programs.

Work as a Team

Collaborate with the Activities Director, nursing staff, therapy team, dietary staff, families, volunteers, and other departments to create positive resident experiences.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Previous experience in activities, recreation, healthcare, senior living, childcare, hospitality, or customer service is helpful but not always required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Creative, energetic, and comfortable leading both group and individual activities
  • Ability to adapt activities to residents’ interests, abilities, and needs
  • Basic organization and documentation skills
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, transporting supplies, and assisting residents during activities
  • Dependable, patient, compassionate, and willing to work as part of a team
  • Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required depending on facility events and scheduling needs

Activities Assistants help plan, prepare, and lead programs that support residents’ interests and overall well-being. This may include games, crafts, music, exercise, social events, outings, seasonal celebrations, and individualized visits.

Previous experience is helpful, but it is not required. Experience in healthcare, recreation, senior living, childcare, hospitality, customer service, or another people-focused setting can also be valuable.

You should feel comfortable engaging with residents and helping lead activities, but you do not need to be the loudest person in the room. Patience, warmth, creativity, and the ability to help residents feel comfortable and included are just as important.

Yes. This is a highly resident-focused role. You’ll spend much of your day encouraging participation, leading activities, visiting with residents, and helping create meaningful social experiences.

Depending on the facility and resident population, yes. Activities Assistants may work with residents living with dementia, memory loss, behavioral health needs, or other cognitive impairments. Activities are thoughtfully adapted to each resident’s abilities, interests, preferences, and care plan. Our team works together to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where every resident is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

You’ll typically work under the direction of the Activities Director and assist with planning, preparing, and leading programs. Depending on the facility and your experience, you may also have opportunities to contribute your own activity ideas.

Activities vary based on residents’ interests and abilities. Programs may include bingo, gardening, crafts, music exercise, baking, games, parties, spiritual programs, community outings, holiday events, and one-on-one visits.
